Homemade Pizza Sauce with its rich tomato flavour is a keeper! This recipe is full of garlic and onion and even has a bit of a spicy kick to it. The spiceiness is thanks to a dash or two (Or three!) of Frank’s Red Hot Sauce . If spicy really isn’t your thing, feel free to omit it. You will still enjoy the awesome rich tomato flavour that makes this recipe for Homemade Pizza Sauce a keeper. It doesn’t take long to whip up a batch of Homemade Pizza Sauce. I think it’s worth the effort as I have not found a purchased pizza sauce that even comes close to this tasty recipe. And seriously, it takes virtually no time to put this together. Pizza is a staple in my house. I am very fussy about pizza and really, out of necessity, this recipe was created. Gerald and I struggle to find a decent (we have given up on aiming for great!) pizza place to order from in our area. So, since we really love pizza, I just figured I would make my own! I am very happy with the results of this recipe for Homemade Pizza Sauce. I will also be posting my recipe for pizza very soon so you will have something to use your Homemade Pizza Sauce on! This post is an update to the previous Homemade Pizza Sauce recipe. I have updated the pictures and added a little water to the recipe so that it isn’t too thick.
- 1/2 Cup Onion, chopped
- 2-4 Cloves Garlic, minced
- 2 Tbsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- 1/2 Cup Wine White or red is fine
- 1 Can Tomato Paste
- 2 Tsp Pizza Spice Feel free to add more if you like
- 1 Tsp Balsamic Vinegar
- 1 Can, 15 oz. Crushed Tomatoes Tomato sauce will also work just fine
- 2 Tbsp Sun-dried tomatoes, in oil, minced
- 1/2 Cup Water May need more to achieve desired consistency
Heat the oil in a saucepan, then add diced onion and sauté til soft and translucent, about 3-5 minutes, add garlic and continue to sauté another minute or so. Add the rest of the ingredients and increase heat until it reaches a rolling boil. Reduce heat and continue to simmer for about 1/2 an hour to allow the flavours to deepen and meld. If you have an immersion blender, blend the sauce til it's almost smooth but still a little lumpy! This recipe freezes really well if you're wondering what you are going to do with all of that Homemade Pizza Sauce!
